Gulp. A new Apple gimmick has come out. It reminds me of when Bella first saw the new even slimmer nanos in color. She scrolled down the page – when she caught a glimpse of the hot pink nano she covered her eyes and said, I wish I hadn’t seen that.
It is the Nike Plus running shoe ($100) and the Nike Plus Ipod Sport Kit ($29). Basically, there is a sensor in your shoe and it keeps track of distance and speed. A push of a button on your ipod triggers a computerized voice to interrupt your music (or podcast) to tell you how fast or how far you’ve gone. That seems like it would be mighty interesting info. You can also upload and chart all your running info on the computer… The NYTimes article tells more here.
The shoe doesn’t seem like anything special except that it has a pocket for the sensor – I bet you could get away with just the Sport Kit and jerryrigging something with an existing running sneaker – because I don’t want to wear anything but the asics gel nimbus that I have used for my last three pairs of running shoes.
